Our Story: Thread Count Myths — Why Ours Feels Different

For years, we’ve all been told that a higher thread count means better sheets.
At Conscious Convert, we know that’s not the full story.

  • True comfort starts with the quality of the cotton, how it’s grown, and how it’s woven — not just how many threads fit into a square inch.

What Is Thread Count, Really?

Thread count is simply the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric (both horizontal and vertical).

On its own, it doesn’t tell you:

  • how strong the fibres are

  • how breathable the fabric will feel

  • how long your sheets will last

Some brands inflate their thread count by using multiple weaker fibres twisted together. This can create:

  • heavy, dense fabric

  • less breathability

  • sheets that feel hot and wear out faster

A bigger number doesn’t always mean better sleep.

Why We Use Long-Staple Organic Cotton

All of our bed linen is made from GOTS-certified organic long-staple cotton.

Long-staple cotton:

  • has longer, smoother, stronger fibres

  • creates a finer, higher quality yarn

  • resists pilling

  • feels softer and smoother over time

Because the fibres are stronger, the fabric can be beautifully woven without being heavy or suffocating.

And because it’s GOTS-certified organic, it’s:

  • grown without harmful chemicals

  • better for the soil

  • safer for the farmers and workers

  • fully traceable from farm to finished fabric

This is the foundation of every Conscious Convert sheet.

Why 300 Thread Count Percale Is Our Sweet Spot

We choose a 300-thread-count percale weave for our organic cotton bed linen.

This is where:

  • breathability

  • softness

  • durability

all meet.

Percale is a classic, one-over-one-under weave which gives a:

  • crisp hotel-linen feel

  • breathable finish for all seasons

  • comfortable sleep for both warm and cool sleepers

No inflated numbers. No gimmicks. Just honest, high-quality fabric designed to last.

Comfort You Can Feel Good About

Every Conscious Convert piece is:

  • made with GOTS-certified organic long-staple cotton

  • crafted in Portugal in audited, ethical mills

  • designed to offer comfort, longevity, and peace of mind

Real luxury isn’t a number on a label.
It’s knowing your bed linen is kinder to your skin, the planet, and the people who make it.
